We're here...
and we’re safe, and overwhelmed, and excited, and exhausted, and weirded out, and disappointed, and eating super delicious food.

Holidayyyyy!!!!!
We’re leaving for Malaysia in 10 hours! I never thought this day would come, I’m pumped! We’re relieved to be having this break from school…. We look forward to eating amazing food (hopefully we won’t get too sick) and sightseeing! We’ll be sure to post pictures when we return. So don’t expect to hear from us for about a week. Merry Christmas to all and a...
Secret Santa Exchange (the play and the feast too)...
This is a pic of what I made as my Secret Santa gift.
Last week, we all drew names out of a stocking to see who we were to give a present to. Every staff person from our school was part of the exchange. I got Son Jung Rae, who up until I drew her name, had no name - except “the cleaning lady” or “agima (old lady).”
The rule of thumb for the exchange was to spend...
A few more points for Korea...
As much as I complained and moaned about Korea in the beginning, four and half months in and I’m starting to really really like it. Today we hung out with Hae Min and her (now official) boyfriend, Danny. They showed us around their universities, and Choi’s Tacos.
Choi’s Tacos were delicious, though Karen and I both got burritos. They were reasonably priced, and I plan on going...
Perm Pics
Here are some more detailed pics of my new hairstyle. I’m finally getting the hang of how to style it, so as not to look like an old lady or crazy person (or maybe you think I still do look that way…)
UNIQLO Photoshoot
Here are some pics of us in our new clothes from UNIQLO. We had a little shopping spree on Sunday and called it part of our Christmas present to ourselves (Malaysia is our other present). Yeah, we’re a little materialistic, a little consumerist… And we’re dorks who like to take pictures with our Olympus. Plenty more fashion shows to come, I’m sure.
My first pair...
Farming: Day 7
The plants keep growin’. Right now they’re ‘bout an inch. The dill is shootin’ up the quickest of the bunch. Well, that’s ‘bout all the farming news.
Tonight, Karen and I ate one of the chickens. We got the bones sitting by the sink just waitin’ to make a stock…

For Sandy:
It sucks not having a dryer...
Whenever I do laundry, I have to take it out and hang it on a drying rack or all over the couch for two days. I miss the luxury of throwing a huge load of clothes into the washer and dryer and just folding and putting them away in a couple of hours. Laundry here is a process. The “normal” cycle for washing clothes takes roughly three hours, and then you still have to hang it to dry....
Farming: Day 1
Welp, lets see what we got growing here (left to right):
Chives, Sweet Basil, Cilantro, and Dill
I guess we’ll see how it grows…
Thanks Ma.

Noraebang with Hae Min
Cory and I met up with my friend Hae Min on Sunday. I met her in 2005 - she was the translator for my family when we spent time with my foster family - and we’ve kept in touch via email and Facebook over the years.
We enjoyed singing at the noraebang, and found out that some Koreans go alone and rent a room just to practice (apparently they want to sing really well in front of their...
Apple Pie
Since Thanksgiving is such an important cultural celebration in the U.S., we had (*) to teach the kids about it. I explained to my kids on Thanksgiving we eat too much food (the main dish being an ugly bird called a turkey), and watch football on TV. In order for them to understand what we were talking about, and to get a taste of what Thanksgiving was all about the school bought apple pies from...
